About

Benjamin Clarke has spent more than fourteen years working at the centre of the contemporary art world, with experience across galleries in Los Angeles, London and New York. A graduate of the University of Auckland, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, he has worked directly with private collectors at the highest level, managing collections across multiple residences and developing a rigorous understanding of how significant collections are built, focused and grown over time.

Clarke Projects was founded on the belief that the best collections are built slowly and with conviction, guided by genuine passion rather than market pressure. Benjamin brings a comprehensive understanding of the primary and secondary markets, the gallery and auction systems that establish and sustain artistic value, and the long-term thinking required to build a collection of lasting significance. He has a particular sensitivity to photography and artists who work at the intersection of the photographic and the contemporary, and an instinct for works that feel both intellectually alive and genuinely at home in the spaces they occupy.

He works closely with each client to understand their tastes, their spaces and their aspirations, finding the territory where a collector's vision and his own eye for quality meet. His approach is rooted in trust, discretion and a long-term commitment to building collections that endure.

Services

Art Advisory

Benjamin Clarke works with collectors at every stage, from those making their first serious acquisitions to established collections seeking greater focus and depth. We source works across the primary and secondary markets, with access to gallery relationships, auction previews and private sales that are often unavailable to collectors working independently. Our approach is patient and considered, guided by a genuine understanding of each client's tastes, spaces and long-term ambitions.

Collection Management

Building a collection is only part of the work. Clarke Projects provides comprehensive management services to ensure collections are properly documented, cared for and positioned for the future. From installation and logistics to insurance appraisals, museum loans and estate planning, we handle the operational complexity of collection ownership so that clients can focus on the experience of living with great art.

Special Projects

Some of the most rewarding work falls outside the conventional boundaries of advisory. Clarke Projects has experience managing large-scale installations, coordinating outdoor sculpture relocations and restorations, and overseeing conservation projects. We work closely with architects, interior designers and landscape architects to place works thoughtfully across the full range of a client's world — from corporate offices and urban residences to country homes, beach houses and the landscapes and gardens that surround them.
